Invest in Youth by the Numbers

Our financial position remains strong as we lay the foundation for our 25th year of service to Seattle students. We continue to make smart investments in our team and operations that will allow us to maintain high-quality programming as we grow and adapt.

Invest in Youth relies on funding from a variety of sources, including new and repeat grants from foundations, government grants and fundraising outreach (primarily our golf tournament).

We continue to round-out our revenue from a loyal base of individual donors, many of whom have supported Invest in Youth continually for ten or more years.

Miscellaneous revenue primarily includes funds from matching grants, GiveBIG and AmazonSmile.

Invest in Youth operates a lean financial structure, carefully evaluating all expenses with guidance from our board’s finance committee and the board at large. In addition to our full-time executive director, our staff typically consists of a part-time program assistant or paid interns.

Administration expenses include staff salaries and limited operating expenses such as office supplies and staff development.

Fundraising expenses primarily represent the costs to host our annual golf tournament.

Programming expenses include costs such as enrichment programming, on-site coordinator stipends and in-classroom materials.

Number of Students Served

We typically serve 80 to 100 students each year, with each student matched with a volunteer tutor. Since its inception, Invest in Youth has served over 2,000 students in the Seattle area at no cost to schools or families. While fewer students were served at the onset of the pandemic, we continued tutoring with a mix of virtual and in-person tutoring and maintained our formula of one student, one hour, one day a week. In the 2022-2023 school year we anticipate matching approximately 80 volunteer tutors with 80 students.
