One-on-One Tutoring

The 2016-2017 school year was Invest in Youth’s 20th year facilitating its one-on-one tutoring program. Unlike many other tutoring programs in the Seattle Public Schools, Invest in Youth matches each volunteer tutor with a single student for the entire school year. This arrangement fosters a truly meaningful tutor-student relationship as the pair spends time identifying the student’s strengths and weaknesses and tracking progress from week to week. It is an extremely rewarding experience for both students and their tutors!

For a firsthand look at the Invest in Youth experience, check out our tutor-student interviews.

How it Works

  • Volunteer tutors are paired with one third to fifth grade student (pairings last a full school year).
  • From October to the end of May, tutors and students meet once a week for an after-school tutoring session (for exact days and times, view our list of partner schools).
  • Tutoring sessions are held at each student’s school, last one hour, and are supervised by an Invest in Youth staff member and an on-site school coordinator.
  • For more information, read our FAQ.

 Small Group Enrichment Hour

Invest in Youth will be implementing a small group enrichment hour at some of our schools. During the first hour of programming, Invest in Youth will facilitate small group time (with 1 adult to about 3-5 students) by bringing in partner organizations to run interactive lessons and activities.
