FIFTH SUMMER AT ISLANDWOOD OUTDOOR CAMP FOR INVEST IN YOUTH STUDENTS

Due to the generous support of Islandwood camp and Invest in Youth donors, seven Invest in Youth 4th and 5th grade students were able to attend a weeklong camp at Islandwood this past July. 2011 marks our fifth year of collaboration with Islandwood, a unique 255-acre outdoor learning center located on Bainbridge Island. The Islandwood experience provides unique learning experiences and hopes to inspire life-long environmental and community stewardship ideals in young people. Our Invest in Youth students had wonderful experiences at Islandwood and came home with new memories, friends, skills and camp crafts. One camper shared her feelings about the connection she made with others – “You come to camp and don’t know anyone and then a few days later it’s like you’ve known them your entire life.” In addition to friendship circles and campfire skits, the students also learned about the local flora and fauna through hikes, music, and art projects.
