What We Do
Tutoring is what we do! For thirteen years, Invest in Youth tutors have worked in the Seattle Public Schools tutoring students.
At the beginning of every school year, volunteer tutors are paired with individual students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. During the weekly one-hour sessions, tutors help students with reading, math and basic skills.
Each tutor collaborates with their student’s teachers and the program manager to find the right instructional approach.
Communication between all parties promotes the most effective tutoring practices. Tutors receive and have access to materials and curriculum that supports student learning.
The most successful tutors are responsible, respectful of individual differences, flexible in approach, and willing to learn themselves.

The success of the Invest in Youth program can, indeed, be measured quantitatively, but the most powerful expression, I see is the joy of both tutors and students at the end of the year as they celebrate their success and the requests of tutors to continue working with the same student for the coming year.
