Return on investment

The stated mission of Invest in Youth is to “enhance the academic abilities, self-confidence and life prospects of struggling learners in the Seattle Public Schools.” As an organization, we believe the fruits of this mission manifest themselves both quantitatively, through academic improvement, and qualitatively, through the attitudes and actions of our students. The sections below represent just a few ways that our staff, board members, volunteers and supporters measure their return on investment.

Program evaluations

Periodic evaluations use academic assessments and feedback from teachers, students and tutors to measure the overall impact of the Invest in Youth tutoring program.

A lasting impact

Academic improvement represents just one aspect of the Invest in Youth mission. As an organization, we believe our year-long, one-on-one student-tutor pairings foster meaningful relationships that leave a lasting impact on the lives of both our volunteers and their students. Each year, letters from students, teachers and principals serve as wonderful reminders that small investments can make a real difference.

A letter from an IIY student to Islandwood Summer camp

Dear Invest in Youth,

Thank you very much for giving the students a fabulous, memorable camping experience and a valuable tutoring experience all year through.

The students’ families are also appreciative.  The Beacon Hill International School staff have witnessed and documented improvement in the students’ academic learning.

I have enjoyed being part of the Invest in Youth Tutoring Program.  It is the best tutoring program ever!! All the people involved value it immensely!  The students, tutors, staff and families look forward to year 2010-2011 with Invest in Youth.

With much appreciation,
