Become a Tutor

Unlike many other tutoring programs available in the Seattle Public Schools, Invest in Youth matches each volunteer tutor with a single student for the entire school year. This arrangement fosters a truly meaningful tutor-student relationship as the pair spends time identifying the student’s strengths and weaknesses and tracking progress from week to week. It is an extremely rewarding experience for both students and their tutors!

Tutoring at a glance

• TUTOR ORIENTATIONS are as follows:
  
  Beacon Hill International orientation is Tuesday, Sept 27, from 3:15-4:15 in the Resource Room.
  Daniel Bagley orientation is Wednesday, Sept 28, from 3:45-4:45. When you check in at the office you will find out where the orientation is taking place.
  Bailey Gatzert orientation is Tuesday, Oct 4 from 3:45-4:45 in the library.
  Thurgood Marshall orientation is Thursday, Oct 6 from 3:50-4:50 in Room 206.
  PLEASE CHECK IN AT THE SCHOOL OFFICE WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT YOUR SCHOOL.

• Tutors are paired with one third to fifth grade student (pairings last a full school year)
• From October to June, tutors and students meet once a week for an after school tutoring session (for exact days and times, view our list of partner schools)
• Tutoring sessions are held at each student’s school, last one hour, and are supervised by an Invest in Youth Program Director

• Complete the online application
  Certain firewalls may block access to the application–please complete the form using a different computer or contact our Program Manager or Recruitment Chair below.
• Complete the background screening authorization
